here is the southwest trip report:
Watson Lake and the Prescott Paddling Club>>>>>
Several days after i landed here and unloaded way too much stuff i had to do a water thing.....strange to say in the high desert but there are four beautiful small lakes close by and my all time favorite has this wonderful feeling about it.....it is all boulders and islands of boulders and i have been back several times to be awed by the lack of sand and the abundance of hard as hell dunes of stone.
Last Saturday the club organized a trip and included many "seniors" who had the opportunity to paddle on a perfect day with the rental kayaks and canoes that are in abundance ....or were until 70 people showed up to rent and get the thrill of being on the water there. the lake is lower than usual because they are putting in a new boat ramp for me....ha.....little do they know i will practically live there. My brother and two nephews and i rigged my boat the Sunday after the first canoe paddle and sailed around this lake chasing small sailboats as we had to tack quite often or run into the boulders...it was great fun.
i am tearing my place apart and rebuilding...already put in new floors and now ordering countertop to be made out of alligator juniper, can't get away from the alligators or the juniper. it is quite an amazing wood and will make my new kitchen island beautiful. in two weeks i head for british columbia and sailing and fishing in the inside passage.
hope you are all staying cool and doing well....
in the fall several of us plan to paddle and camp on the verde river near here....will let you know how mbcakc west is doing
